I'm not sure what ti think about One Pot Pledge.

Part of my "brain" tells me that anything to set people on the road to growing their own food has to be a good thing - especially if supported by the delicious Alys

Another part is bothered about the "trendiness" of "pledging", the talk of "gurus" and the worry that growing and producing food is being made to sound just too simple. I imagine the disappointment when a lettuce in a pot proves to be rather insubstantial as a crop, leading people to give up before they've really got going. Added to that, I wonder how much it costs and whether it will prove cost-effective.

Go on, tell me what to believe.

Sadly, we have been transported, often against our will, into the 'guru-led' world. I see if often in my working life with the huge rise in Life Coaches (didn't they used to be call friends and family who didn't charge you £150 per hour for giving you advice and guidance??)

I guess some who try the OPP will get caught up with 'our' drug of choice, others will fall by the wayside - as with any fashion trend.

No help am I

I must say I am instantly turned off by any hint of trendy names and catchy titles, but if it encourages people to give gardening a try then it must be a good thing. I should think most people can grow something in a pot if they don't let the slugs eat it or forget to water it. A few years ago I noticed a neighbour carefully tending something in a pot which I was sure looked like a willowherb. Then it disappeared when they finally realised it actually was a weed. She assured me that it wasn't what she had planted originally.

Hi Alan,
I actually find it quite sad to think that what used to be named
The Henry Doubleday Research Association and was the premier collection of organic gardeners in the land has been forced to stoop so low. To put it in the vernacular the only pot I would use is one to ---- in!
You probably guess that I do not approve of this stupidity.!

I just thought, do you think the twerps who messed up Gardener's World have been taken on by the HDRA to make them more trendy?

If they are it really is in trouble.

At work we were supposed to use some strange titles similar to guru - for a video conferencing project in schools can't remember what it was now. My colleague and I just refused and when we were producing documentation for it changed the titles to something else! No-one objected but if they had it would have been too late!
