Hi
Silly question but can any of our 'down-under' colleagues confirm whether runner beans etc climb their poles the other way round (anti-clockwise) in the southern hemisphere.
I know it is different between north and south for water in sinks etc and am just wondering whether plants do the same thing?

Hi Blighted and welcome to the forum.
I always thought they followed the sun/moon so that would be the same wherever you are, would it not?
I'm sure someone far more knowledgeable than me will have a precise answer.

Just to complicate things.
Runner beans twine clockwise when viewed from above, whereas most other kinds of beans twine counterclockwise. see Floridata
Where does that leave things?

...and never try to cross a runner with a French bean, or the poor offspring "may go straight up and fall flat on its face" like this poor sucker
