Then you got mocked by PJ. I'll back you up. We had some extremely dry rain last night. By that I mean that this morning the road was damp, but the soil was still bone dry. A bit damper now I've had the hose on it.

By the way, I notice that Old Codger claims to live in Bedfordshire, whereas you are in Beautiful Bedfordshire. Do you wear rose-coloured specs, or is he a miserable old codger? Or is he just jealous of your superior allotment

Dear Alan, there are two no's and a yes, but in which order i'm not prepared to say.
I'm glad i was right about dry and wet rain though.

As for the fishnets old codger, i remember using some to strain paint once, i hasten to add, with little success.

Well, we did get that rain: 10mm at last, not enough but better than a kick in the teeth! And this seems to be it, no more to come for a bit.
All the transplants breathed a sigh of relief when the rain came and now, hopefully, they'll be away.
I think we might also harvest our first potatoes (Rocket, grown in a large bag) the next few days. Looking forward to that!

I have been a miserable old codger today, its poured of rain all day , and i have sat moping about all day

No i am not jealous of O.H. allotment i only have to look at my runner beans half-way up the canes,and O.H.has nothing on one side of his canes,he has some nice fat slugs ha ha

We've just had a few spots of rain this evening, but otherwise nothing all day. The ground is plenty wet enough as it is.

Just watched the weather forecast on tv and it looks like the west will get some showers tomorrow and thursday but nothing significant.

Still no rain here - blazing sunshine again

If it goes on like this the Welsh will be taking English water for a change

Is everyone joking about the weather? Today it is not raining - it's a miracle! More rain due tonight though and tomorrow. Last night I had trouble getting out of Swindon as the roads were flooded. I'm very envious if the rest of you really haven't had rain.

It's been raining here since Sunday evening but stopped sometime in the night. Today is beautiful and everything feels clean again.

The rain has finally reached NW Wales this morning. We have had no measurable rain since way back in April, and it's a joy to walk around in and watch everything heaving sighs of relief - apart from the hens and chicks, that is.

Its Thursday afternoon and we still havent had any rain. I am going up to the plot now and will have to do some serious watering tonight.There are black clouds which keep looking like they mean business but then they dont come to much. You just watch with saying this we will have a monsoon this weekend which is supposed to be good weather again.

I do sympathise with you, Alan and Catherine. I planted some more leeks yesterday and found that only the top two inches or so were damp, otherwise dry underneath. We are watching the clouds, too, really black ones at the moment but not a drop coming down.
It must be horrid for those of you with too much rain - wouldn't it be lovely if you could send us some?

We had a very very light shower this afternoon. I am talking probably 27 drops of rain. No need to put a jacket on. And if you walked quickly you could avoid the drops Clouds around but no rain.

Same here, Catherine, we had a 3-minute sharp shower yesterday and nothing today, although rain was forecast. Our broad beans and peas in the garden (where they are watered regularly) are twice as high and advanced as those on the allotment where watering is very difficult. They were all grown at the same time and in the same way, so the only difference is the watering. Just shows how much difference regular rainfall or watering makes!

Rain ! what's that?

Standing in my allotment yesterday, watching ths black clouds over the Cotswolds and the same over the Welsh Hills with the sun blazing down,made me think, hopefully "NO Blight!"
Never had any serious blight (the odd spud) until last year,all I have thought about since my little beauties pushed their little heads above ground!
