Re: Back again at last

Primrose - He was near the top of a rather ricketty pair of steps cleaning the bungalow gutters. I said, I don't like you up there dear! He thought for a moment and said, that's upsetting but I hope you still like me when I'm down there. :D

Re: Back again at last

Thank you for welcomes Primrose, Monika, and oldherbaceous and yes, progressing with renovation now, thanks. I haven't written to an internet forum before and always loved writing with pen on paper in the old 'school style'. Hubby said, just try not to go off topic! (Does he think I'm a bit of a ram...

Back again at last

Hello everyone, after a long lapse I hope it's alright for us to join in again. Hubby is busy renovating this old property though, amongst other things, but has changed some of the garden around to give the two raised beds a lighter position. So for this month at least I will try to contribute somet...

Re: Early Winter bits & bobs?

Heaviest frost here in Dorset so far, the few runner beans hanging on look frozen so may appreciate being in really hot water now. :D

Re: Early Winter bits & bobs?

Hi Westi, glad your weather is only a damp squib so far. :D Our property's on a slope and should be Ok, the greenhouse gets a bit wobbly in strong winds so I fix camping-type guide ropes from the four corners. :) The bird table is lying prostrate again though.

Re: Very quiet here - again

We look at the forums quite often but in the daytime I’m struggling to fit a DIY lean-to greenhouse against a laurel hedge :( :) but that’s no excuse for not writing in during these long nights.
Just now intend to write on the topic - Do mice eat shallots etc.

Re: Keeping records of home grown produce

Nice heavy rain here so found time to write in. We didn’t think able to grow enough stuff in this lttle suburban garden to warrant keeping much of a record. Besides the Runner Beans against a fence and French ones on temporary net against the bungalow wall, only have two 10'x3' raised bed cloches. T...

Re: Swallows

Wow Geoff.. Swallows in the garage, do hope they come back next year. We noticed a few over Poole Upton Heath nature reserve earlier this week. Funnily enough, with the Martins they’ll soon be flying N.E. again so perhaps there is some ‘magnetic influence’ around here. Presume they quickly get some ...

Re: Flying Ants - what a sight

Vegpatchmum said, 'I've recorded our swarm on the Society oF Biologys' Flying Ant survey'. Well done VPM. Seagulls gather for their aerial feast, here a young Song Thrush ran around with the other birds including Dunnock and Robin to grab a share. Ants are high on the food list of the lovely Green W...

Sorry, wrong age and should have said the Fairy Battle Albacore was built early WW2, not 1. :)

Re: It's here!

Hi Westi congrats on your 600th post, got a lot of catching up to do. Do you have much interest in sailing, fantastic Ainslie’s done it again and the other lads a Silver medal in the Star Class. Needed a lot more wind to be really exciting though. We don’t race these days but still potter around the...

Re: Hello from the South Coast

Thank you all for welcomes. :D
Hi Diane - and all that lovely hoss fertilizer shoveled off roads mostly unpolluted by motor traffic. :)
Hi Westi - We have lived near Poole since the mid 60's, previously West Midlands about 30 years.

Hello from the South Coast

Hi everyone, I can't find a 'welcome place' but hope it's acceptable in this general discussion? After browsing various topics here I think my wife and myself can learn a lot about gardening. Our main interest is growing herbs & veg in raised beds as 'getting on a bit' now (We remember when Stea...
