Can't identify that mould? Got a great tip for keeping slugs at bay? Suggestions for organic weed control? Post them here...

Hi All , last year I was locked in a constant battle to the death with the dreaded slugs ,out every night with a bucket collecting them up before they devoured my crops although the chucks do really enjoy them !!
This year I have sent for some nemotodes to keep the little blighters in check ,but I have just been reading that these affect veg such as potatoes so am I getting rid of one nightmare only to be hampered with another one .

There are lots of different kinds of nematodes. What does it say those you've bought are meant to target? The ones they sell for killing slugs are brilliant for protecting your potatoes.

They don't kill them all though and nocturnal slug hunts are still helpful to catch above ground ones.

You shouldn't apply them too early in the season because they need warmer weather to start working.

I usually buy some at one of the early garden shows as they usually have a discounted "show price", and then apply it in late April or early May.

I find that an application on the potato bed keeps the bed more or less slug free all season, and continues into the next year.

It would be counter productive to sell stuff that caused a problem for any other veg.

Hi Guys thanks for the replys ,the one I have sent for from the seed cat are
to attack the slugs nothing else ,
I will apply them then when they send them in the warmer weather ,
hope
fully it may cut down on the slug hunts by torch light ! the chucks will be upset
Last year i set up loads of beer traps they did seem to work fairly well good job I brew my own beer or that would have been expensive .
