I've planted Galleon Cauliflower, there about 10-12" high about 8 leaves.
They have now started producing "Side Shoots" on the main stem at the leaf axis. Has anyone any idea if this is peculiar to this variety or is there some other reason for this. I have so far been removing them as they appear.

Nobody has come in on this one - I reckon you deserve a reply. I haven't bothered with cauliflowers for many years now - they are a difficult plant to grow well. But here goes! No cauliflower should do what you describe. What is the condition of the ground you are growing in? Cauliflowers, more than any other brassicas, will only succeed in well nourished, firmly compacted ground.

I'd probably call my soil medium loam. It's had loads of compost and muck over the years although not this last autumn. I always use Growmore as a fertiliser but in moderation. Plants were firmed in well with the heel of my boot and I've repeated that since they were established. These side shoots/plantlets are coming a bit like side shoots on tomato's I keep pulling them of and the main plant looks healthy and robust. I don't think it's doing any harm it's just something I've never come across before and so was interested to know if anyone else had experienced it.

I have planted these caulies for the last 4 yrs.......I just plant them and make sure they never dry out.wonderful harvest this year.1/2 football size
and pure white...thought the frost had killed them but they were perfect after fighting back.have this years growing on now and will be planted in about 2 weeks .tougher than they look leave em alone lol
