Yes folks, it's fine. The Express says so, reputedly based on a "report" by a right-wing think tank apparently run by Tory MP Bill Cash.

Alan, did you perchance see last Friday's "Have I Got News for You.".

Catch up with it on i-player as the two guests had a nice section about Climate Change and Research into it. :D :D :D
Do not put off thanking people when they have helped you, as they may not be there to thank later.

I would not go as far to suggest that all is fine, climate change is happening. The question remains is it a natural cycle or is it man made?

My problem is that there seems to only be politicians, most media and scientists with a vested interest in saying man is to blame.

These same experts were telling us not so long ago about the coming next ice age.

Remember all the experts predicting doom and gloom over the millennium bug, government departments became involved in predicting how all micro chip controlled processes would all stop functioning. What happened, apart from the vested interest groups making money from it all? Sod all.

My advice is do NOT be fooled by the so called experts, it is just a ploy to raise uneccssary taxes to keep our corrupt left wing think tank experts in power.

Don't be fooled by the fools.

funny how whilst the global warming conferance is going on the states has had the deepest earliest snow for years... not been reported much by the media though... perhapsvthey thought pics of brownn et al were prettier than snow scenes... or just easier to get..... perhaps we should cull all politicians to reduce the production of hot air.

We are fortunate we have been through a period of low solar flare activity while warming. I'm guessing the same persons are saying the acidification of our oceans is not our fault either, or the gender-benders in our rivers, or the polluted air that is unfit to breathe in our cities, or the fact that our children have levels of toxic chemicals 6 or 7 times higher than adults in their little bodies, etc...etc.... I keep an open mind and shoulder responsibility for my own actions, emissions consumption, pollution prevention, and conscience / ethics. We each make up our own minds.

Whatever one's view on the subject of climate change and its causes it is worth remembering Geoff's well considered and expressed warning in a similar thread (which I am sure he will not mind me quoting):

Re: Antarctic ice melting
Whether global warming is happening or not, whether it is man made or not, are both irrelevant. The measures that are being taken / proposed to combat it need to be taken anyway. We cannot continue to burn fossil fuels at anything like the current rate as they will simply run out, what is left should be used mainly as chemical feedstock not as fuel. It seems feasible to heat our homes and get around to a reasonable extent (I consider most flying unreasonable) without using these reserves but it would be hard to envisage a world without polymers, after all many of them save the energy that helps redress the balance. If doing the sensible thing also stabilises the climate it is a bonus and it is unlikely to make things worse.

Another good thing to be discussed at the conference is the protection of the Amazon rain forest. Whatever the issues on climate earth would be a far worse place on many counts if the rain forests continued to be destroyed.

I also just wonder why politicians etc have to travel around the globe so much when they could use video conferencing more. I also wonder how many of their banquets put their money where their mouth is literally and have vegetarian meals.

Thanks for your kind words Alan. It does still leave the problem of whether just reducing energy consumption and switching to renewables will stabilise or reduce the CO2 concentration, that is assuming there is agreement that it is required. Perhaps if there were more dissenting voices a long time ago. Soon after I started working for a living in 1969 there was an article in "The Engineer" about the wonderful new pulsing chimneys that would stop pollution by sending emissions into the upper atmosphere. I wrote a letter, that was published, saying this was all wrong and the smoke from power stations should be scrubbed clean rather than dealt with like this. If only there had been a consensus then but after all it was only just after "Silent Spring" was published.

It is all very well recognising that climate change needs man to help lessen the serious consequences, but whenever one suggests a way of reducing the man made damage it gets put down if it does not fall in with the 'green liberal approach'.

I have for years advocated nuclear power stations and it is extremely likely that a third one will soon be built near me, but of course that does not fall in with the 'left wing think tanks', the same if it is suggested that immigration from developing countries may have to be reduced. So just how serious are these concerned individuals about global warming? Not very, is my opinion, it is all about adopting what certain individuals are happy to impose on other people disregarding many of the unpallatable truths that do not sit well with the green clan.

It is all a silly game pretending dotting the countryside with wirlygigs, recycling rubbish and growing organic food is going to combat climate change, we need serious people prepared to take serious decisions if the general public are going to be persuaded that this is indeed an important challenge to us all.

The problem, Barney, with these people is that they don't have what psychologists call a strong internal locus of control. Instaed of looking objectively at evidence and altering cherished beliefs or tailoring them to the evidence, they are [unconsciously] scared of rejection by those they identify with and continue to mouth the slogans and shibboleths.

But more and more people are recognising that nuclear energy is "clean". However, the problemof disposing of the waste still remains until we attain the nirvana of fusion reactors.

For those of you advocating nuclear power, do you have young children ?
I live near dungeness power station, we have recently lost two children to leukaemia in our village, our government says there is no connection but recent german research proves a connection

http://www.channel4.com/news/articles/s ... ed/1300847

We get a double whammy because there are nuclear stations just accross the channel too.

Hi Nature's Babe,
I am saddened that you should lose two children to Leukaemia locally but this occurs as frequently within areas where there are no Nuclear Power Stations as well.
I have just had a scare with one of my grandchildren and thankfully the result was negative.
From what I gather children that live in close proximity of a petrol station or a motor repair garage who are more at risk than those near a Nuclear Power Station. It would appear that the Leukaemia is caused by Hydrocarbons and very little to do with anything Nuclear.
I am not trying to persuade you one way or another but the odds are against the Nuclear site.
News programmes are renown for their total bias because it makes good news and have learned of old not to totally believe everything I hear or read.
I appreciate that there are many people with the same thoughts as you but the statistics to not point to anything Nuclear.
I am afraid that if I was asked for my vote one way or another I would vote for the Nuclear option.
The information given out by the Anti Nuclear Lobby is many many years out of date and when they fear they are going to lose the day always shout Remember Chernobyl! This is not good enough in these times.

Hi folks. It always surprises me that some are prepared to carry on regardless of the consequences. Are we really prepared to take chances when it comes to the future of our climate ? I hear many voices talking about "vested" interests when it comes to trying to do something about our climate, but what about those same vested interests in keeping things the way they are right now ? I think that sometimes, one has to trust what is being said by the majority of 'experts'.

Cheers...freddy.

Surely it is about time that the countries of the UN got together and, rather than holding a useless Copenhagen conference, formed a "UN Power Generation Agency". This would provide a non-political body which would help all countries build and run "green' generation facilities. Nuclear, hydro-electric, wind, tide and solar being the obvious ones. All nuclear power stations would be under the control of an international body, which would ensure that they are used only for peaceful purposes. The Agency would also be responsible for the safe disposal of waste products - shooting them into space, perhaps, or sealing them into the "caverns" left by extracted oil?
