Watering fruit bushes in autumn

We have quite stoney fast draining soil in our garden and with the recent lack of rain the soil around my soft fruit bushes is looking very dry. I never really know, at this time of year, whether it's worth giving them a good soaking especially as any moment now all the leaves will be dropping off and the bushes will start becoming fairly dormant. Any advice?

Personally I would leave them alone. In any case, it looks as though some heavy rain is heading your way soon.

Hi Primrose,

Advice I was given this year was to water the trees every day during the growing season and to ensure that they get enough to put a pipe down to their roots. This was because they were newly planted and young, only 5 years.

Now we are in the autumn I am not watering them again until the spring.
