Raspberry Canes

I have some summer fruiting raspberry canes which I put in about three year ago. They have been very successful and this year produced a bumper crop. The trouble is they are in two beds and now taking up a lot of room - particularly when netted. I therefore want to move the smaller number - about seven canes/clumps into the same bed so next year I can just net them all together and this will free up some more space.
I have now cut back all this years fruit canes and left the new growth for next year BUT my question is.... CAN I move them? WHEN should I move them? and WILL they mind/suffer/die??????
All your lovely suggestions would very much be appreciated. Thank you.

You can move them, but not at this time of the year. Wait until they are quite dormant, when all the leaves have fallen then choose the thickest, most vigorous canes for planting. Cut the canes down to no more than a foot after you've planted them.

Absolutely right. And when you lift the clumps of rasberry, you will find the younger more active canes around the edges and you can chop these out with a spade (knifr if you are fussy). As lonmg as they are kept moist between lifting and planting, and then watered well after planting they will all take andyou will have more vigorous plants that fruit better...
