Summer Pruning

I will need to prune my two plum trees which are grown as fans against the garden walls.
When is "summer" as in "summer pruning"?

I think you will be safe to prune now while the trees are in active growth. I think the idea is that the tree will have time to callous over any wounds and so prevent virus spores from entering, especially those of silver leaf disease.
