Today whilst driving along a narrow lane, I came upon a mass of Common Bistort, not daffodils! They looked beautiful…. But I’ve never seen them before, not where I live, south Wales. So just how common are they?

Not many round here either, but very common in northern England. The young leaves were the base for Yorkshire Dock Pudding and the Lake District Easter Ledges Pudding. See link for recipe:

Yes, it is quite common here in Yorkshire, usually by streams and in damp woodland. It looks very pretty, but smells horrible.
