Wilting cauliflower plants

Can't identify that mould? Got a great tip for keeping slugs at bay? Suggestions for organic weed control? Post them here...

My young cauliflowers that I planted approx 6 weeks ago have suddenly started to wilt, but only when the sun is on them! Otherwise they seem quite healthy with the exception of holes in the leaves which I think may be flea beetle. I'd appreciate any suggestions as to the cause/remedy.

Thanks, Helen.

Hi Helen,
Suspect Cabbage Root Fly. These pests eat the roots away and ultimately kill the plant.
Did you protect your plants with anti CRF discs?
Probably best to dig one plant up with a lot of soil attached and then place on some polythene and analyse the soil. If you find a load of small maggots in the roots then my diagnosis is correct.
If not, replant the plant and say a little prayer!
JB.
