When do I start to give the chicks grit they are now 6 weeks and they are on chick feed I have been told they can go on growers at 8 weeks but when do they need grit?
Thanks PaV

Hello PaV
I'm not really sure about the answer to this one but I don't see any harm at all in making grit available to the birds now. They will take it if they need it. As you probably know there is a special (finer) grit sold for chicks to use. If you can't get this stuff, try a pet shop and buy the grit sold for budgies.

The chick food has small grit in it, but you need to give them some when they go onto growers pellets. Like John says, the stuff for budgies from the pet shop would be OK while they are small, or you could crush the ordinary grit up a bit to make it a bit smaller until they can cope with bigger pieces.
