My lawnmower insists on a closed season - it's called Winter.

My first thought when I saw the headline was that he'd shot his gardener

Americans will shoot anything anywhere any time; it's their manifest density.

I know just how he felt!! There was a time when my OH was working away a great deal so it was down to me to get the lawnss cut. We had one of those pull-chord mowers and I could never get the damned thing started, however hard I pulled it. When I finally damaged my shoulder trying and ended up having to have surgery, we bought a combined pull-chord and key operated machine. Half the time I still can't get it going!! There's probably a knack to these damned machines and I obviously don't have it!

Not confusing it with the kiddy-mower from Toys-R-Us probably helps, I take it that once you realised it played music with every pull you went and looked for the real pull-cord start mower?
Do not put off thanking people when they have helped you, as they may not be there to thank later.

I've never shot a lawnmower, but could imagine shooting my rotovator or grass strimmer when they won't start. However, I have had murderous thoughts about the lawnmower repair man-a more patronising and chauvanistic man you could not hope to meet! He fails to recognise that It's not me that is faulty, just the machine!
