I have just gone through my polytunnel to get my cabbages out to harden up. I think that I must not have been counting my cabbage seedling because my larger plants now add up to 86... Dont know how I managed that. Various ones, April, Primo and several I cant remember. Oh well I will have to plant them with sky hooks because I dont think I can plant them all. Really dont know how I managed this. Does anyone think that you can plant them closer than it says on the packet and they will still grown on okay. Do they freeze well? I still have caulis and Romanesque to go in as well.

There's probably a better answer to this, but "what have you got to lose?"!

You've already asked about clubroot, getting started in pots etc, so we can assume that's already covered (86 potted cabbages..... ). Provided you have enough space for other crops, why not plant some with normal spacing and put the others closer together?

With the latter, you could:
- Treat them as Spring Greens, get lots of lovely loose greens & accept there might not be much heart
- Crop some earlier than others (at even intervals across the plot), in the hope that the remainder can grow more normally

Finally, getting more seed germination than expected is a happy accident (better than the other way round) and cabbage is pretty cheap.
