Hi

I have 2 blueberry bushes which I have had for more years than I can remember. They are currently in large pots of ericacous compost but I am about to move them to a purpose built raised bed for all my fruit that prefers this medium.

Growth on the blueberries is sparce - how do I regenerate them? Can I cut the whole bush hard back? Should they be planted slightly below ground level like a blackcurrant to allow new stems to shoot from below ground?

Many thanks

Dear Allotmentkate, i would plant them about 2'' to 3'' deeper, after teasing the roots out if they are very pot bound.

But i think i would only cut out about a quarter of the old stems, or any that are very thin or touching the soil.

I'm sure once in their new quarters they will put on new growth.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

Thanks OldHerbaceous, I am going to move them to their new quarters next weekend, weather permitting, so I will try that and see how they do
