Does anyone know what this pretty climbing plant is? My daughter spotted it rambling through a shrub, in Scotland. It has green berries on it which are now turning red.

It's not Deadly Nightshade (Atropa belladonna)

it's Woody Nightshade or Bittersweet (Solanum dulcamara)

Many thanks for your replies - we didn't realise it was poisonous so are grateful for your info.

Hi Alan,
Could it be Solanum the Potato Plant? If the plant is growing in a flowerbed it seems quite possible.

Hi JB

Could be, though the petals look a bit too reflexed for Solanum Crispum.

I have both Solanum Jasmonides Album and Solanum Crispin growing in my garden and as Alan says, the petals look much more reflexed on this photo.

I do have Nightshade growing too and this looks just like that. :D

My first reaction was Deadly Nightshade, but the leaves look rather like the leaves on my aubergine plants so I'm rather foxed. I'll see if I can identify it in my book of wild flowers.
