i hope one of you with a good memory can help me. i read an article in KG i think it may have been last year and posibly by bob flowerdew about toms not being dependant on light to grow but heat.there was even a special name for the type of plant that was this way.can anyone help? maybe point me in the right direction or scan and send me the article?

I don't remember what the article said, but every plant do need light.

Tomato is (as for examlple potato and eggplant) a member of the nightshade family (Solanaceae). They have a special requirement that they need dark (reason for the family name night shade). If it never gets dark, they do not thrive.

They also need heat to set fruit (but not too much).

Hello fish, I wonder if you are thinking of getting green tomatoes to ripen when they are off the plant at the end of the season. THEN you can put them in the dark, as long as it is fairly warm.
