Dear Anthony, i would say it means the same thing.
They like to use different words just to confuse things.

After a little checking up, the term second crop actually means a late season crop.
This means the tubers have been kept under a controlled temperature until July or August, they are then planted to get a very late crop of new potatoes. Even up to Chritmas if left in the ground.
Something else i've learned, this garedening lark can be very trying sometimes.
And just incase anyone doesn't know, second earlies are planted after first earlies in the Spring, i think.
