I have come across this disturbing film from Compassion in World Farming. I know all of us who keep our own birds do so to avoid this appalling abuse. If you know anyone who thinks humanely-reared birds (Free-range/Organic) are expensive, perhaps you could suggest they have a look at where their cheap meat comes from.

Hi Alan,
I do not believe in broiler chickens at all but I buy genuine free Range non-organic Chickens and here they sell at roughly £6.80 for a 4lb bird yet only yesterday in the new Organic Outlet locally, a 3.5lb chicken was priced at over £15.00. and to me is so way over the top as to be taking the piss out of the public. I sincerely hope that the vendor of that chicken had to take it home with her. That is not being organic that is being downright greedy!!

We always try to buy free range chickens so I watched this and felt physically sick, although I have always known that something similar to this was happening. One always feels rather powerless to prevent this kind of thing happening but I have sent this link to all my friends in my e-mail address book with the message "Enjoy Your next chicken Meal". I can only hope they will feel as I do and take the hint.
