I am just about to plant my brussel sprouts. I wish to mulch them.
general advice is to avoid freshely manured ground, as this may cause the sprouts to 'Blow'.
I would like to mulch with a layer of newspaper and then thick layer of rotted straw over this. My concern is that this mulch could cause similar 'blown' sprouts.
should i have such concerns?
I am growing 'Falstaff' and 'F1 Cascade' this year.

Its not the manure that causes the sprouts to blow, last year I planted mine in freshly manured ground with good results, you have to make sure the sprouts are firmed in very well plant them then put your boot round them and firm in

I dig a small hole around 5-10cms below ground level and plant sprouts in that . Makes for less windrock/better watering.
