Hi everyone.
Bit of a silly question which will be obvious to you all, but I have sown some Onions indoors in modules and now they are about 2.5 inches tall. Do I pot them on into 3 inch pots, if so how much of the plant goes into the compost. The only references I have read talk about sowing them outside and thinning.
On another point, talk about silver linings. 3 of my neighbors were moaning as their fences got blown down. I asked what the problem was and it turned out they had a great big bonfire and burnt them but did not know what to do with the big pile of ashes. Quick as a flash I offered to take it off their hands, and now my Autumn sown Garlic is nestling in about 2 inches of Potash!!!

No, keep them in their original modules, there'll still be enough nutrients in there until the time you plant them outside.
On your fence ash, are you sure the fence had not been treated with creosote or similar? I would have been a bit cautious with that ash.
