As I don't grow my own I've cheated and bought a delicious looking stem of Brussels sprouts from a farm shop. If I dip the end of the stem in water and keep them outside, how long will they keep fresh for, and will the sprouts start to blow out like mini cabbages if kept like this?

Hello Primrose
We cut the bottom inch or so off the stalk and stand it in a pot of water outside. It works well and the sprouts keep in good condition for a couple of weeks - never had any blow. Use the sprout top first though as this will pull a lot of moisture out of the stalk if left on for too long.
