Having only just acquired DVD playing technology (other than 'puter) courtesy of spending a massive £17.84 on a new DVD player.....and then having played my one and only DVD "55022 The Third Age".....Mum has found an eclectic collection of ex newspaper giveaway DVDs...

First on the play list is The Secret Garden..1975 version...episode 4 is running in the front room as I type.

I certainly recognised the railway in the first episode...NYMR..with Lambton 0-6-2 Tank No.5

...The "Secret Garden" was very much a studio film set..but I am interested to find out where was the outside location for the filming in a "sleeping" walled garden of which one section was largely grassed over but retained a centre pathway with cordon fruit trees formed into an arch.

Perhaps gardener Ben Weatherstaff?, who was busy in the vegetable garden, reads the forum. :?: :? :? ....perhaps he moved to Milton Bryan..

Any ideas.??

Thank you,
Clive.

Morning Clive, i don't think he lives in Milton Bryan.
Thats a long time since i watched that programme.
And one more thing Clive, i always find it amazing that they can make somthing like a DVD player for that sort of money, but you come to buy a silly plastic spare part for something and it comes to the same sort of money. :?
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

There's no fool like an old fool.

Hello OldH,
Yes, it does make you wonder at the price..but them having sold a player for £17.84...it no doubt helps with the subsequent sale of DVDs each week with the groceries.?? Not I supect with our weekly shop though...my DVD/Video subjects may not be mainstream  :?

I remember a friend of mine visiting my workplace for the first time...and it took them straight back to their memories of the tv Secret Garden...it has taken me several years to catch up on my tv watching...perhaps I was playing with my Hornby Dublo when it was shown in 1975.??

I am interested to know where the outside shots where taken.

My workplace garden was involved with some Pride and Prejudice filming...the Fay Weldon version?? of which I have not yet found a copy...the then new Aga oil tank starred in a background shot

Mr Potato Head

There's nearly always someone that knows something about a film / TV programme on IMDB (Internet Movie DataBase)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073675/

However, an exhaustive search of the electronic interweb reveals that this series was filmed in the following locations...

Allerton Park, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, England, UK | Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England, UK | Fountains Abbey / Studley Royal, Ripon, North Yorkshire, England, UK | Harrow School, Harrow, Middlesex, England, UK | St. Pancras Chambers, St. Pancras Station, St. Pancras, London, England, UK

Hello Mr PH,

Thank you for your searches on this subject...I think it was a 1993 version that was filmed at the places you list.
http://www.eofftv.com/s/sec/secret_garden_1993_main.htm

However I decided to change search tactics and have now gone via the actress name who played Mary..Sarah Hollis Andrews. This has lead to an interview where she talks of the filming in 1975 at "the Constable estate in Yorshire, a big rambling place with lovely gardens and wonderful atmosphere".

This lead me to the answer of Burton Constable Hall, East Yorkshire.

A visit to their website http://www.burtonconstable.com confirms that this was the location of the Big House and Orangery used and tallies with this screenshot.

I don't know for sure that the walled gardens featured were at Burton Contable but have since been busy with aerial mapping sites looking for the walled gardens at BC

It was the fascination of the lost walled garden that set me off on the search to see if I could find out Where and if they were still Lost..or if they had been Found.??!!

The following screenshots set the scene for my fascination at finding the location...If they pose copyright problems..??....best delete them a bit poste haste :?

All the best,
Clive.
