have just pulled up the purple carrots I grew from a freebie Thomson & Morgan pack. Have yet to taste them but have never grown such a "whiskered" crop o carrots. There seems to have been as much "foliage" below the soil as there were leaves above.
Could this be due to my soil or the dry summer (even though they were watered regularly) or has anybody else experienced the same problem with this variety?

I just nearly cried in my trousers reading about whiskered carrots, just the thought of it makes me laugh.
Some of my carrots have been a little "whiskery" this summer but not to the extent you describe. Perhaps its a "purple carrot" trait.

Hello Primrose
I've only ever seen this 'whiskering' effect on carrots when they have overwintered and are starting back into growth in the spring. It may be a characteristic of this variety or perhaps this unusual long mild autumn has something to do with it.
Never grown this variety though.
