this morning for the third time i went into town looking for a new suit (family wedding fast approaching, the one i bought 18 years ago is now too snug and the missus wouldnt let me look on ebay! ) I was amazed at the lack of stock in the shops, burtons was still there but only had 4 different suits and only one in each size, m&s and bhs wernt much better, but at least bhs had one in the right size that wasnt black. the only bright thing was the prices, i ended up spending less than on the first one some 35 years ago, though the material does seem alot thinner.
I guess it shows the commercial realities of changing fashions and buying habits, and that a lot things are cheaper to buy than ever which is why we are such a throw away society,
new suit

Richard, I'm sorry but you don't sound like much of a seasoned shopper (that's a good thing actually!). The reason they had so few sizes was because it's the end of the season. They've sold out of the other sizes and will be getting the autumn/winter stuff in now. You've bought a summer suit in the sales. This explains the cheap price and thin material.
Never mind, you won't have to do it again for another 18 years.
And the gardening connection is.....

Similar experience for OH who has been to more funerals this year than weddings, plus a few dinner dances/formal balls.
Got a DJ for less than a suit.
All 3 types required available via Boundary Mills/Ross Labels at a fraction of the usual price(s). They even do mix and match.

I'm disappointed Richard. I thought you were going to tell us you garden in your suit like Herby does. (With a monocle and cigarette holder maybe? I can see it now!)

You have a very wise wife. You could have become totally addicted to Ebay like my DH. He gets such an adrenaline rush when he bids he shakes all over. We have a room full of stuff he buys because it is "A bargain"
