Get hold of the latest,July, copy of "The Garden", RHS journal. There is what must be the definitive article about growing salad crops for winter use, what and how to grow them inside and out, how to store etc. Unfortunately copyright applies so I can't share it with you but as it has a price on the cover it is worth asking if a single copy can be purchased.
Also for good measure another article all about tomato troubles, blossom end rot and the rest.

I notice that there are in the article references to Charles Dowling's e-mail and website.www.lowerfarm.org.uk
No easy way to get the whole article but some flavour of it is given here:-
http://www.rhs.org.uk/Learning/publicat ... vegbox.asp
He claims to be inventor of the 'box scheme'
One acre of Organic vegetables,............ but read it for yourself!
He runs courses so maybe when you are rich enough you could go on one. Next course 1st October.
