Bonjour peeps,
Last year in France we brought back some standard white garlic bulbs which were planted in early October. These are growing very well and are bulbing up nicely, hopefully ready to be harvested in August.
Now, back to the chase. At St Lo market this Saturday, I came across the same lady and purchased some Rose Garlic bulbs this time that are very large, were planted in October the same as mine but were harvested LAST WEEK (end of May). I know Normandy is a little warmer than here but not to the extent that they can harvest some 6-8 weeks before me. The garlic was grown outside with no protection. Just how do they do it?
On a topic untelated to garlic but related to France, I can recommend the 2002 Chateauneuf-du-pape.

Bonjour my little porcine friend
How was your holiday? Hope you and Piglette had a fabulouso time and ate and drank lots and lots!!!
I don't know how they do the garlic? Wish I did. Mine was some rather fab specimens kindly got for me by Wellie and were planted in October. The necks of them are about 1 and a half inches round and i'm dying to pull them up to see how big the bulbs are. All I know is that they smell delicious.
Maybe someone else has some ideas on how it's done and they could pass on their knowledge

Rose garlic sounds tempting.
My garlic came from the Garlic Farm on the Isle of Wight and several sets are forming quite nice red bulbs. One lot have all tried to produce flower stems (trimmed & stir fried - delicious!). Can't be long till harvest now!

There's one they do called Albigensian. Haven't tried it.
I used Early Wight, Iberian Wight and Solent Wight.
Here are some of the end results (click on the thumbnails to view full size):
