Seeing Pa Snip's mention of the phrase "you can lead a horse to water ...", reminds me that, for a few years, I have tried to re-find the correct faux latinisation of this phrase which includes the part "...equine quadruped to the aqueous solution ...". My ancient brain cannot recall the full version. Can anybody help?

Searches on Google have not brought any results.

In the same vein, I have always liked "monolithic duo-avicide" for "killing two birds with one stone"!

Blimey, now there's a question

The danger when people start to believe their own publicity is that they often fall off their own ego.

Hi Monika
Search brought me this:

It’s possible to conduct an equine quadruped to the immediate vicinity of an aqueous liquid, but bibulation cannot be induced by any coercive process.

And work this one out:

Individuals who perforce are constrained to be domiciled in vitreous structures of patent frangibility should on no account employ petrous formations as projectiles.

A lithoid form, whose onward course
Is shaped by gravitational force,
Can scarce enjoy the consolation
Of bryophytic aggregation.

When I was kid I learnt this:

I once was ultra clever at amazing calculations,
I mastered conic section and the theory of equations
And differential calculus, and abstruse permutations
of awful probabilities of converse variations.

Funny how one remembers things after 70 years!

Many thanks for that, Alan. I thought you might come up with the answer. And as for yours:
a rolling stone gathers no moss!

And I like yours, too, JohnN! Must print it off and learn it - you never know when it might come in useful.

Too cold and wet in the garden at the moment, PaSnip (snow on the hills!), but I did sow some broad beans and peas in roottrainers today.

Later, when I was in he RAF, a few cynical souls wrote their own version of the popular song Bless 'Em All --

Bless ‘em all, bless ‘em all
The long and the short and the tall
Bless the instructors who taught us our gym
Broke us completely in wind and in limb
And if ever your Spitfire should stall
You’re in for a bloody great fall
There’s no roses or violets, for dead fighter pilots,
So cheer up my lads, bless ‘em all.

Enduce the quadruped to element aquatic
Engurgatation it is said may not be automatic

You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink

My papa used to say that to me
