But we will nevertheless be away for a few days shortly. My seed trays are mostly all indoors on window ledges with a few in the plastic greenhouse.. Does anybody have any special tips for ensuring they don't dry out too much and die while I'm away?

We go away a lot , next week we are off for 3 weeks last year we did a 2 month stretch right in the middle of summer it was great but what we faced when we came home was not it was more to do with some people on our allotment than anything else, the bitch next to us tried to report us to the r.s.p.c.a. because one of our chickens was molting and she did not like the lad I was sharing them with, one person decided to help himself to some of our potatoes he was very apologetic when I threatened to break his fingers and we had a complaint that we had a young kid coming down on a bike to water the plot for us he was my youngest daughters fella he is 38 years old , I had quite a bit of fun on my return this year we have been away once for a month and all was ok when we returned , one of the guys lower down from me has said he will water our pollytunnel and keep his eye on things I now share the chickens with a young lady who is full of energy and has a very sunny disposition she also has volunteered to keep her eye on things, if you cant get a friend to water your plants have a look at the small watering systems that work off batteries we have one in spain which we use when we are at home they are not expensive and really good

Hi Primrose,
Whenever I go away in May I take my young tomato plants round to a gardening neighbour to look after along with his. With everything else I leave them close to the house on the sheltered north side, so out of direct sun and so far this has worked since I think the occasional hot day being the greatest danger. I usually look ahead to the five day forecast so can get some idea of what is likely to hit.

Good luck and enjoy your break away.

Hilary
