Computer keyboard problem

This is the second keyboard I have had that the letters have worn off in a few months. It's a black Microsoft one and only 10 months old. I tried a silver paint but that didn't last 5 mins. I know I should complain to Amazon where I got it but is it worth all the hassle. Does anyone else have this problem and is there a solution?

Dear Beryl, i wonder if a permanent marker pen would do the job, you can get them in different colours. Just make sure it's a fine tipped one.

My keys are fine on my laptop, and my hands are as rough as they get.

Beryl, do you use hand cream?
That might chemically accelerate the wear.

Yes, Peter I do use hand cream. Never gave that a thought. Now what do I do stop using it? with my gardeners hands, going to be difficult.

OH, green doesn't show up maybe if I could find a white one some where.

I have worn out several of the keyboard letters on two Lenovo laptops over the years. I'm a touch typist so know pretty well what the blank keys are but have in the past painted them back on using Tippex and a very fine cocktail stick. I have a different problem in that my past two laptops have a built in "finger swipe" ID as alternative to a password access and neither of them recognise my fingerprint from either hand 9 times out of 10 when I try to power on, so it's just as well I have a password access as well. I rarely use hand cream so that's not the problem. Perhaps over the years I've just typed so much I've worn my finger print away!

I used to run computing courses and some people often mentioned that they wore out the lettering on keyboards. We often wondered if some people just had a more acidic perspiration than others. My cream MS keyboard still has distinct letters even after years of use. I don't tend to swap it as often as my computer.

You can buy keyboard stickers to replace the letters and also plastic keyboard gloves that are really to protect from spills may help.

Thank you Primrose I will try the Tippex. and look out for the stickers. The days of me being a touch typist have long gone. I blame the spell check.

I blame fingernails... they do just sweep across the keys even if you press with the top of your finger.

This will give my age away but I did train on the old manual typewriter when the keys were banked much higher and it was said I don't know how true, that we hit the keys with the weight of 10lb hammer in those days. No wonder I wear the letters out. Although now I can raise my keyboard a little I do still find them very flat.
