The article does not point out why the varieties specified are under particular threat from the legislation. The fact is, other varieties, or even unnamed seedlings, are passed off by many suppliers as being a particular named variety when they are not. Something should have been done about this years ago, but the trades associations failed to act so the EU have stepped in. This is draft legislation, and like any draft legislation, it is open to review. Now that it is on the table, a pragmatic solution ought to be arrived at.
