I was looking around our displayed cards while listening to the Kings College carol service this afternoon and noted several things about them.
1. How few cards there are these days displaying any religious theme.
2. That we received considerably fewer cards this year.
3. That the majority of them seemed to have a white background. (I wonder if it's a case of the card printers deliberately using less colour to economise in these days of austerity?)
I envisage that with increased postage costs, the Post Office seems intent on destroying one of our old Christmas traditions as more people switch to using internet-based greetings. Rather sad really.

Dear Primrose, we have just over 100 cards, most of which have been hand delivered, probably only about fifteen came through the post. Only 5 religiously themed ones, and these have come from people who send that type every year, but very nice cards indeed.
Not many white ones, but we do seem to have a return of the glittery ones.
Oh, and one rude one that i have hid slightly behind the chiming clock.
And i think the one Donedigging has sent me, must have got lost in the post again.

We have one card that is totally red glitter, 6 religious cards, 21 with Robins which all stand in one location, one funny card, assorted others including a photo of the radioship Ross Revenge at Tilbury ...thank you Caroline.

It seems your postman has censored my card again this year for being more than a little saucy...
Perhaps he delivered it to Old Codger and his chickens instead....

Just had a tot-up, Primrose; we have about 40 cards, only 4 with religious themes, but a noticeable number are home- made (some very simple and some elaborate, including two lovely snow photos). Local ones were hand delivered but the majority came by post, including about 15 from family and friends abroad.
Our card numbers rose to more than 120 a few years ago and we decided this was just too much, so out went those people on the list we see regularly in any case (neighbours etc). We sent them a card, explaining that this would be the last one they would receive from us. Quite a few still send/give us cards which makes us feel very guilty but we are determined not to go back to the huge number!
