Marmite brought out a OX version at christmas time and I was lucky enough to find a jar in my stocking this christmas ....Oh yum 
Wish they would do a extra hot chilli version that would be heaven.
I actully keep a jar in the car in case I go some where where they dont have any....
I like cheese crackers with it spread on, topped with a little cottage cheese .

I did wonder if you were from the west country then I read your disceiption of where you live and decided it was the south of france .....
Alan its meant to mean extra old ...so it has more of a pokey flavour
