I had left the parsnips to be frosted before lifting but we have had only 2 genuine frosts and they are now starting to sprout. My newly planted Viburnum is doing flowering beautifully. Still time for a genuine winter though.

Well...I will pass the blame to an old school friend who brought me a pre 1995 Hayter Harrier 41 that had been replaced by a smaller electric "wizzmo" and half his garden gravelled with a garden railway....

A quick recoil starter repair and I had to go try it out... :)

Westi, my plum Beauty is flowering now. Like you I doubt we will have any fruit again this year. Just needs a frost and that's that.

Never mind hang in there we might be lucky next year. It's worth waiting for I can assure you.

Hi Beryl

How old is your tree? Mine was supposed to be 2 when I got it and I have had it for 2 years; this will be year 3. I have had one plum to date - and I want loads more as it was fantastic! (I've also given my Redlove Apple a stern talking to which must have worked as it isn't looking like budding yet)

Hi Westi,

Mine was 2 years old planted in 2008, I had I think one or two plums in 2009 but 2010 I had a really good crop. I would think about 10 lb fruit. I've trained it as an expelia for easier picking. Frost is forcast for next week amd have thought about covering it with fleece but don't think it is very practical. It's not fully in flower yet so fingers crossed there may be a few more to come later. I think it is really is a delicious juicy fruit.

We've had a few clumps of primroses in flower in our garden since before Chrismas, and one pot of summer geraniums is still in flower on the patio, albeit a little sparsely now.
