Happy new year people!! :D
I have taken delivery of a Eureka Lemon tree (small at this stage) and want some advice on best place to grow it as I wanted to put it in the greenhouse, but have had mixed advice on this. Any suggestions on this front please??
Also, can anyone advise on the best soil/compost for growing these in containers? being in the Chilterns, the soil here is very chalky??

Been thanked: 1 time

Happy new year Phill, My lemon tree is in my conservatory. It isn't heated but doesn't seem to get much below 40 F. If you can keep your greenhouse temperature above freezing it should be OK, but if it is a small plant I would keep it a bit warmer.

They don't like very dry air which makes the leaves drop off, and they don't like wet soil, so in winter keep it just slightly damp.

I always buy citrus compost to pot mine up into which is I think slightly acid so best for you if your soil is chalky.

Good luck. I have had mine over a year now and it has 9 lemons on at the moment, two ready for using and the rest various sizes from acorn to large lemon but still green. I've used two huge ones for lemon meringue pie and lemon curd.

Plumpudding, many thanks for the advice. Will get some citrus compost. lacking in a conservatory so will give the greenhouse a go and see what happens. It never seems to freeze in there.

Thanks again.

I've been thinking about getting one for inside my house. on new years eve I went round to a friends and saw that he had a lemon tree in his livingroom, it was lovely! he grows different varieties of chillies too but only in the summer on his balcony.
