Rain, hail, mmm it must be December

We were hoping for some nice weather whilst we are off between Christmas and the New Year to do some serious walking. But what do we get, rain and hail yesterday, (in Ambleside) and this morning I have been up since 4am and it is throwing it down outside and blowing a hoolie.

Now I dont mind walking in rain or whatever but I am now getting rather fed up with this dull horrid weather. I want to see some clear bright skies and frost and cold and sun (forgotten what it looks like).

I have just managed to light my fire and am now sitting with a cup of tea trying to decide what to do today.

Whats the betting that next week we will get the good weather when we are back at work.

Yesterday was the only sunny day of the holiday period. Excellent walk along the coastal path west of Cricieth.

That's a lovely phone Alan, I used to holiday with my parents in Wales, Aberdaron area I always loved wild seas. Thank you you just cheered me up. Still hosing down outside. Nice and warm inside...

It's very windy here this morning, but nice and dry, a little like the day i visited Chwilog.

Hi Alan,

Your photograph has brought back so many happy memory's from my childhood, can I ask if the photo was taken as you walk away from Cricceth.

When I was in either 1st or 2nd year of senior school we had a school camp just outside of Cricceth and the photo looks like the path we would walk when going into Cricceth, we would take the path or the beach at the bottom of the camp and walk towards the back of Cricceth castle.

The picture was taken looking away from the end of the promenade at Criccieth, where the cliff-top path starts.

To bring back more memories, here's the view on the way back towards Criccieth you will have walked from the camp, path to the left, beach to the right.

Various camps still come to the fields to the left of the picture every summer.

Just back from a four & a half hour dog walk, cold, sodden and covered in mud down the right where I slipped & fell.
Dog delighted with her new fluorescent coat, just got a wet head and muddy paws.
It is persisting down.....

Looking at my December weather records: the only day without precipitation this last month was Boxing Day - there has been some rain/drizzle/sleet/snow on all the other 30 days!

Hi Alan,

Thank you for the second photograph, that view has brought back so many memories its untrue, many I had forgotten about, like the science master trying to catch mullet or mackerel with a fly rod whilst stand on the rocks cannot remember if he caught anything.
also I remember going swimming in the next bay, we would have walk/run in the shallow's to get to the deeper water so we could start swimming, but what we did not know was, that there was a shelf that dropped down quite a bit, so it was such a shock to run out in what we thought was shallows only to have the beach disappear from under us and to find yourself underwater which even now makes me shudder as it was not expected at all.

I must on day get back to the llyn Peninsula and Criccieth for I have had some memorable holidays there, but I think I will give the swimming a miss
