Sorry, John, about the late reply about the potatoes, been away grandchildren-sitting. Yes, we always wash our potatoes, especially this year because they were caked in wet soil which is so horrid when you leave it on. It also shows up any damaged and slug-holed specimen.

We wash the potatoes gently with a hose over a large strainer resting on a wheelbarrow and then spread them out to dry, turning them once or twice. We then store them in flat ex-apple boxes, lined with thick newspaper, covered with newspaper and stacked one above the other, separating them with wooden poles to let the air circulate.

All the boxes are labelled and I try to use them in order from the top, but every so often we go through them to check if they are ok.

Beautiful "summer's" day here today. Celebrated by driving out to buy some new birds - 3 black Indian runner ducks, 3 Bluebell chickens and 2 Speckledy.

That sounds very exciting, Alan. It's always a nice feeling when you get some new livestock.

Morning OH

Judging by how quiet the forum is of late, I reckon most of the members are at the party
So how come the two of us didn't get an invite :?:

I feel sorry for you Alan.
It's very much shirt sleeve (and shorts) order again here today.
We had several downpours before this warm spell began so the ground is still amazingly damp despite this hot dry spell.

Just been whizzing over the allotments with the hoe, a good time of the year to get it weed free, but there was a lot of prairie dust about, just shows how hot and dry it is.

Just off to the Harvest Festival Church Service, this is one of my favourite services, but i think i may have mentioned this over many years. :)
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

First drops of rain here - very glad of it though as i hate the hot weather.

OH - i love harvest festival too although one year my dad was a circuit steward and 11 services in 5 weeks all "ploughing and scattering" does wear you down after a while!!

Our service, at the Church adjacent to work, was last Sunday.

Pumpkin was missing this year as the ask is for it to be available for use later in the year.....
The stand in was 2x Spaghetti Marrow.

Clive.
