I planted a pecular plant in the spring and now have completely forgotten the name of it. It looks like a large chive-y, garlicky, onion-y thing....comes up and then the growing tip does a complete loop and the carries on growing upwards again. On top is a thing that looks like a clove of garlic in a paper covering - inside are tiny purple buds of mini garlic shape.
I've taken one of the tops off and planted up the mini garlicky buds - but am wracking my brain cell as to the name of the plant.
Can anyone help, please? Is it edible or just ornamental?
Thank you.
Peculiar plant growing in the border.

It sounds like a garlic that is producing a scape
