Drove wife and son to Dover with their bicycles to set off on their three day continental cycling holiday. Got there in good time & waved them off into the ferry terminal.
Nineteen miles back up the M20 on the.way home my mobile rang, "Come back and take us home, his bike frame (carbonfibre) has snapped riding through the terminal."

Right-hand seat to rear wheel tube is like a plastic bag of cottonwool, just an inch, but two thirds of the circumference. He heard a crack, then after wheeling the bikes onto the ferry he looked his over closely and found the damage, them they had to disembark, go through various formalities etc before ringing me.
Wife is very upset as she's been really looking forward to this trip, but said his face on finding the damage was heartbreaking,.either a warranty claim on the (very expensive) bike, or, accidental damage on the insurance.
So all hotel reservations cancelled, ferry tickets refunded, bike frame stripped of all parts awaiting bike shop open (mondays shut) and me walking on eggshells. :( :? :!:

Sorry to read that Peter, no wonder they are both so upset.

I have got a tradesman bike he would be more than welcome to borrow. :)
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

Sorry to hear that Peter.

Looking on the bright side though, at least you won't have to cook for yourself  :)
Cheers PJ.

I'm just off down the greenhouse. I won't be long...........

That is bad news Peter.
This summer I was out in the Alps and a friend who was travelling with us had a carbon fibre wheel fail as he was cycling down a mountain. He was descending slowly (they had just set out) so just stopped but as it was a front wheel the consequences could have been nasty.
Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
