Heatwave here in the south east, and dry again, shading the greenhouse in the day, watering well in the evening and up early to get the bulk of the hard work done in the cooler hours. Phew!

No heatwave here - night temperatures are low even after warm days.

... here we go again. Lots of sunshine the last few days and no rain. Last weekend's extreme heat was supposed to break down into thunderstorms and torrential rain. What did we get? About 3 minutes of large drops and then nothing. After the rain about 10 days ago, everything has dried up again. I think somebody has got it in for us, can't think why.

Hi Alan,
At 5am this morning the temperature was registering on my weather station 4.8C which is incredibly low even for here at this time of the year.

Just a touch above 5C this morning - but a warm day in prospect.

That is cool for this time of year, here at night it has varied between ten and thirteen, they forecast 14/15 for this week. Do you think we are in for another big freeze when the days shorten again?

6 degrees her last night and 5 the night before though the days are pleasantly warm and sunny. The forecast for next week advises rather cool days (about 15 degrees) and even cooler nights again. As long as there is some rain ...

Good morning Alan,
At 4.30am today here we were 6.2C which is still too cold for things like outdoor Tomatoes. This year is following last years trend of very low night temperatures.I hope this is not going to be the new norm.

How are your tomatoes and other veg faring with those low night time temperatures? Here the outdoor cues and toms are looking healthy and developing well, have had 7 or eight outdoor cucumbers and about ten pounds of indoor tomatoes so far, the outdoor tomatoes look healthy and lower fruit formed but they're still green.

Hi NB,
It would be nice if you could give us all some indication as to the night temperatures you get where you are situated.

I did earlier in this thread Johnboy, it was 12x -13 then, it has varied the last few weeks from 11 - 16, so fortunately has not affected the outdoor tomatoes or cucumbers. But when it is hot it's scorching, I have shaded the greenhouse roof. Heavy rain forcast for the weekend though.

It may be July but the weatherman yesterday was saying it will be more like October this weekend.

Hi NB,
I wasn't as clear as I should have been but when Alan or myself or others
give a low night temperature I was asking you to respond if possible on the same day for comparison. Sorry not to be clear in the first place.
JB.
