It sounds great, I wonder how long it will take to deliver, especially now the E.U are cutting their funding for this kind of thing.

Hi Plumpudding. At least they are thinking along the right lines. I don't think we can rely on the EU, with so many countries struggling with debt it will only take one to default and we are all in the sh...it !

...and a long read, too. Read all seventy-six pages of the White Paper here -

Something in my cynical mind reminds me that over a year ago young Dave promised "the greenest government ever". There have been many recent criticisms that nothing of the sort has appeared after a year of the Con-Dems. Then seventy-six pages of "targets". I really wonder how many will become "action" in the next four years

Hi Alan,
A big fat zero is my guess
On the one hand they have a nice big list of targets, and on the other hand they allow the supermarkets to use excessive packaging, much of which is non-recyclable. Perhap's they should be tackling waste at source, or would that upset too many large organisations.
Probably should be on the recycling thread, but never mind
Cheers PJ.

Hi Alan and PJ, well we could have voted green, we could have voted for AV hoping for PR later which would have helped the smaller parties to grow, but we didn't, so there is not a strong green force in parliament. We do have one green MP who is working hard for change and making some difference but it's not enough. As I see it, things could have been different but we have to live with the same two party see-saw because that is what we most people voted for. That said, we all have a choice when we shop and there are ways of avoiding too much packaging, many grumble but fail to write to their MP's or council and demand change. We have a government that wll make a U turn now on important issues eg the health service. The trouble is most people think as individuals they cannot make a difference, but that is not true our individual actions do affect the whole. I take heart from the fact we do have one green MP now, humanity's slow to change unfortunately, but fortunately through history there have been individuals who are prepared to stand up to the general trend and fight for what they believe in, remember slavery and womens rights? Some fought hard for things we enjoy today, it's up to us to do the same if we want better for our children and grandchildren.
climbing down off my soapbox now! In my own area the mentally ill were taken to police cells for safe custody because there was no emergency admissions unit, imagine being mentally ill, vulnerable, in need of care and finding yourself slammed up in a police cell for a day or two, even though you might not have committed any crime! It took ten years of campaigning and writing letters, finally I got a letter from government to say the money had been allocated, and we now have emergency admission centres for the mentally ill in Hastings and Eastbourne, sometimes it takes a lot of energy but that taught me change can happen.
