Hi NB,
When Carrot Root Flies are looking for somewhere to lay their eggs then they fly low but at other times they are perfectly capable of to fly high just like every other fly. This myth that they are incapable of flying normally has been with us too long.

Hi Sue,
Did Scozonera do the job? In a single word no! I went on to let them flower for the buds, which are truly tasty, but had the worst CRF attack of all time when the Scorzonera was sown.
My Carrots are now always grown in an Anti White Fly netting cage.

I must just be lucky not to get carrotfly then, maybe it's because I plant frequently in small quantities between other plants, not enough for them to get a whiff of them. If I had a problem I would probably cover with fleece or a very fine net like Johnboy.
Sit down before a fact as a little child, be prepared to give up every preconcieved notion, follow humbly wherever and to whatever abyss nature leads, or you shall learn nothing.
