I had stopped posting on this forum but JohnT's comments have compelled me to post.

I wholeheartedly agree with your comments.

I'm appalled by the behaviour on this, and other threads by the same people time and time again.

However many years of experience they have or how high their post count does not give any forum members the right to continually behave in the fashion of contributions on this thread.

I wonder how many people over the years have stopped posting here because of this ?

Surely the forum is for all who wish to contribute. Not just those who agree with a vocal few. Perhaps these forum members should think about how their behaviour reflects on themselves and the impact they have on others.

With respect

Hi Richward

Surely the forum is for all who wish to contribute. Not just those who agree with a vocal few. Perhaps these forum members should think about how their behaviour reflects on themselves and the impact they have on others.

When you say the vocal few quite who do you mean?
As a relatively new member to this forum I regret that you find us all at loggerheads but you must understand that my posting to John T was an attempt to try and bring back the forum of old. You must also understand that John T joined this forum for one thing and one thing only to fight the good fight for the banning of Peat. This is completely against the ethos of this forum which is for the furtherance of the growing of vegetables. Many other people do not see the need for a complete ban on peat and when they have asked for the verification of the statistics have not been able to get any satisfactory answers.
John T is the moderator of another forum and has no interest in this forum other than the anti peat lobby and that is why I respectfully asked him to return to his own forum and leave us in peace for that reason and that reason alone.
If you cannot see that what I wrote was for the good of this forum then there is nothing more I can do or say.
JB.

Hello Richward, please do post and give the mods a chance to sort this. I heartily agree that all views should be heard, I also agree with JohnT, this forum should be for all views and I resent comments where folk try and impose their views by denigrating others, and making out others are in agreement with them with comments like most people here think.... and always wanting the last word and plugging the same old arguments. It is a shame because we should be able to live and let live. It is a shame because it puts many newbies off commenting if they are afraid they might be targeted by a vociferous minority. Everyone is entitled to their view but please be clear it is your view and don't try and drag the rest of us along with you by saying we agree with you ... we will tell you if we do agree with you,. but if we don't then we are entitled to a different view without being jumped upon, or included in your comments as most people here agree The trouble is when anyone stands up to this behaviour they risk being tarred with the same brush by those who only want a quiet life. These vocal few do have other valuable contributions to make to other threads here which are appreciated by many here, in fact everyone makes valuable contributions and we learn from one another, so lets show more tolerance less dogmatism, speak for ourselves and not try to railroad others into the same view. This is a good forum but it could be even better if we show one another more respect and give credit where it is due. Johnboy I am glad you have fond memories of how te forum used to be, but we get new members all the time, and things evolve we can't turn back the clock but we can work towards making the forum better in future, making new members feel more welcome, show respect, and appreciate one anothers contributions.

Richward

Just an observation: I note that none of your posts to the KG forum have contained gardening advice, answered gardening queries, or related your own growing experiences.

The same would apply to other "campaigners".

Johnboy's contributions are in very large part advice, answers to queries and references to his very long and extensive growing experience.

As I say, just an observation.

Alan people with a different view are not necessarily "campaigners" and there are many here like Johnboy who share their gardening experience, hopefully all members are valued equally by the forum. Richward just said he had not posted before precisely because of such personal comments . Comments like this do not help any new members to feel at home, and tend to put new people off contributing, they should be welcomed and encouraged and treated with respect.

Well said Nature!

..and with that I think we'll call time on peat discussion, since it clearly can't be debated politely.
