There are no instant sample tests that could be carried out. By the time the results came back in 36 hours, or whatever, the produce would no longer be 'fresh'.
I think that if you were to soak your produce for a while using a Camden Tablet solution it would have no effect on the taste and considering they are used to purify water or at least get rid of the nasties they may be a good precaution to take with shop purchased salad stuffs.

I'm told by someone who has worked in catering and had to gain hygiene certificates that washing thoroughly in water and drying afterwards should get rid of the bacteria.
