Wow, my first ripe outdoor strawberry picked today, and it was delicious!
Something to be said for this early spring sunshine!

Hi Peet, they grow quite quickly, the anticipation makes the first taste even better,

I sneaked a couple of almost ripe ones from my strawberry bed a couple of days ago and they were so sweet - obviously all this sun. As my plants are about five years old I'm resigned to the fruit being smaller than they were initially, but the flavour is definitely unaffected. Must remember to keep watering them though now that the fruit are swelling and to try and finish off last year's boutiful crop - still have several bags of them in the freezer.
Yes, I picked my first 6 strawberries today. The soft fruit will be a bumper harvest I think this year but I was disappointed today to see very few fruitlets left on the plum and damason trees. The early blossom was fantastic but with few bees about and the combination of warm days, cold nights. Hopefully the cherries will make up for them, they are still looking very good as are the apples and pears and figs.

Lol Geoff, but we could really do with some rain, you can have too much of a good thing.

I was wondering where they'd gone
