Damaged Fruit Tree

Can't identify that mould? Got a great tip for keeping slugs at bay? Suggestions for organic weed control? Post them here...

My most wonderful tasting Greengage was struck by lightening about 10 years ago and I thought that I had repaired it with grafting across the split down the trunk but now it has bracket fungus and I am now waiting for some new growth so that I can bud some onto some plum suckers that are from the base of my Victoria Plum which should be the correct root stock but there is no real knowing.
Should this be the wrong rootstock at least I can keep my Greengage going until I find the correct rootstock. The Bracket Fungus will eventually kill the tree which is very old, probably more than 100 years old, so I have no idea which Greengage it is but its taste is truly wonderful.

Very sad, Greengages are my favourite Plum, how looks can be deceptive! We only usually get a few but this year the blossom has been fantastic during this wonderful spell of weather so I am hoping for a good set.
