Fairy rings

Can't identify that mould? Got a great tip for keeping slugs at bay? Suggestions for organic weed control? Post them here...

Does anyone know if these high nitrogen fertilizers that these lawn care firms apply, could actualy make fairy rings worse. Any advice will be glady accepted.

Kind regards Old Herbaceous.

Generally mushrooms and toadstools hate chemical fertilisers, hence the rarity of meadow mushrooms now. They get their food from breaking down organic matter, they are not like plants, they cannot utilise basic chemicals. So they are likely to die if you put on high nitrogen fertiliser. It depends on your definition of worse.

Personally I would love to have a fairy ring...but that's another side of my life to gardening.

I'm with Vivie on this, although a little tedious to pick fairy ring mushrooms are very tasty and dry beautifully.
