Last season decided to dig up and keep my chrysanth's. These were put in a box in an unheated greenhouse, what I would like to know is when is the best time to take cuttings.

Dear Shallot man,
now is the time to take xanth cuttings. Use pieces about three inches long from the stool, any longer and they change and won't root so well. They shouldn't need rooting compound and are best in a mix of 2/3 seed/cutting compost and 1/3 sharp sand.
Regards Sally Wright.
