So we won't be seeing battery cows after all

I understand that Nocton Dairies’ plans for a factory mega-dairy in Lincolnshire have been withdrawn. Apparently the Environment Agency’s objections were the final nail in the coffin although I suspect that public protests about cows not being able to live a natural life outdoors for part of the time also had a lot to do with it.

And with the government's plans for selling off many of our ancient woodlands being abandoned today, it rather looks as if "People Protests" are starting to make their impact.

My work college (who occasionally pops on here) lives just a few miles from the site - and didn't fancy the idea.

Unfortunately, it is the future - as in, to keep up with higher demands, lowering open space and the need to increase storage and extend the life of products, that these kind of places will begin to appear.
Indeed the farming community around Lincolnshire are of one mind that super-dairies are the only way to compete.

Sadly you didn't read-up on the Nocton Dairy project otherwise you would have realised that you are so wrong. You would not have written as you have.
A different concept in dairy farming maybe but a battery system is simply not the case.

If it does not happen you will stop putting milk in your tea it will become more expensive than beer. ex industry and had to get out due to costs

The type of dairy that was proposed is nothing new, I remember learning about it 50 years ago, it was then called Zero Grazing and was and is a wide spread method pratised in North America. Incidentally dairy cows already spend half their lives indoors (winter) in the present system.
